Yah, same!

….I say ‘no worries’ a lot for a person who worries 101% of the time!

Between deadlines, commitments, relationships and money, life is stressful! Now put on top of that the stress your body is constantly under and it’s easy to see why we can be feeling pretty darn frazzled. 

Let’s start from the top.

Stress is anything that takes your body away from its natural state… and I mean anything, internally and externally. Sunburn, DOMS, food intolerances, arthritis, alcohol, opening a bill, fighting with your husband… no matter what the ‘stress’ your body reacts the same - it thinks it’s under attack. 

Your bodys’ defences kick into high gear in a rapid, automatic process known as the “fight-or-flight” reaction or the ‘stress response’. Your nervous system responds by releasing a flood of stress hormones, adrenaline and cortisol (Let’s call these your bodies soldiers). 

If you’ve ever slipped over and caught yourself - you might have felt this process; flood of adrenaline and then you feel it filter away, cheers cortisol. 

But the problem is, this response happens CONSISTENTLY throughout the day! Your body activates your soldiers not only in life threatening situations, but for everything! Surge of adrenaline, flood of cortisol. Pretty exhausting for those soldiers to be constantly on guard; constantly running to help, right? Definitely necessary sometimes, they are your protectors after all, but … I’m not sure I need a soldier to open my mail!

If you tend to get stressed out frequently (consciously or unconsciously) as SO many of us do in today’s demanding world, your body may be in a heightened state of stress most of the time. i.e., your soldiers got tired of returning back to base, so they decided to be with you at all times, just in case.

But this can lead to some serious health problems. You’re not meant to have these guys with you at all times and this can turn into a big issue! Chronic stress disrupts nearly every system in your body. It can suppress your immune system, upset your digestive and reproductive systems, increase the risk of heart attack and stroke, and speed up the ageing process. It can even rewire the brain, leaving you more vulnerable to anxiety, depression, and other mental health problems.

So now what?  

We step in - and stand down those soldiers. 

Let’s give your brain a rest and let your body focus on the things it needs! How? Remove its stimulus!

So now let’s look at that internal stuff! The stuff we have NO control over. Because the most dangerous thing about stress is how easily it can creep up on you. You get used to it. It starts to feel familiar - even normal. You don’t notice how much it’s affecting you, even as it takes a heavy toll. That’s why it’s important to be aware of the common warning signs and symptoms of stress overload.

Can’t sleep? Cant wake up? Don’t feel caffeine? Struggling to lose weight? Suffering from a hormonal imbalance? 

Skin issues? Poor digestion? …. SO many things can come back to stress. 

If your body thinks it’s going to die, you know what it isn’t going to be doing? Tapping into its stored energy for fuel! Every non essential function gets put into the ‘too hard basket’… cause if it ain’t going to kill ya, it can wait.
