Breaking rules at Breakfast

Breakfast. Some people love it, some people hate it. 

But truthfully, it's the most important meal of the day! 

Now before you ‘old wives tale' me, Let me explain why!

During the night, your digestive system has been asleep, just as you have. This morning meal is quite literally breaking your fast, which is why we call it- Breakfast! It kickstarts your metabolism; It starts the cogs turning that fuel your brain, your muscles and your digestive system. Think of it as rolling out of bed and getting straight into the shower…it wakes you up. Many feel they couldn't wake up properly without that fresh kick of water and your body is exactly the same. Breakfast is the ‘go' button to the machine that is your body. 

But WHAT you eat, is the key! 

Protein is the building block of cells throughout the body. It is responsible for healthy skin, nails, muscles, cartilage and blood. Protein helps to build and repair bodily tissues… It’s your bricks and mortar. 

But most importantly - having a protein packed breakfast will help to regulate your blood sugar levels, meaning you won’t get a massive surge of insulin.. meaning - in 2hrs time - you won’t crash and feel like you need a high cal pick me up! 

Studies have shown that weight loss can be more difficult and weight gain more prevalent in folks who consume high carb (high GI, insulin spiking) foods for their first morning meal. Plus, those who do are more likely to consume more food than usual until their next meal,   having a tendency to snack on high-calorie foods - searching for that insulin surge again!  

Moral; protein breakfast- good. high carb breakfast- not so good. 

BUT -  breakfast doesn't have to be limiting. Sometimes it can seem like you only have two roads: Toast Or Cereal. But this is definitely not the case. There are so many fast,   healthy, easy and enjoyable breakfast options, which is why it's my absolute favourite meal of the day.

Let’s break some rules at breakfast!

(Relax ... I'm not going to suggest the steak)

Most mornings, I have what I like to call a Quinoa muffin. Ok ‘Muffin' might be a bit of a stretch of the word...but any muffin that isn't hanging over my jeans is good enough for me ;) 

It's super simple to make....

To a large mug add;

4 tablespoons of cooked Quinoa

1 Raw egg

1 small mashed Banana 

1 tablespoon Desiccated Coconut 

Mix together really well.. And put in the microwave for 1.5 mins. And ‘Ting’ you’re done.

The ingredient options are endless. Try dried Cranberries.. Or seeds and nuts.. Apple and cinnamon.. and my absolute  favourite, Peanut butter! Have fun, mix it up, feel good and enjoy! 

It's delicious and satisfying. It feels like your eating a breakfast muffin, but it's guilt free- gluten free, sugar  free, super healthy and filled with all the good things you need to start the day!

My SECOND fav breakfast is a smoothie - With Zucchini! 

Yep, Vege’s for breakfast - what up!

Cut up and freeze a whole zucchini - now use this as your ice cubes. It makes it your smoothie creamy and thick and cold and delicious.. Plus packed with nutrients! 

-I use a scoop of protein powder

-1/4 frozen zucchini

-1/4cup frozen fruit

-1tsp Hemp seeds 

-1tsp Spiralina (or spinach)

(Blend in food processor until smooth!) 

These two beauties are filled with all the good things you need to start the day! Low GI, High protein, Good complex Carbs- packed with complete nutrients and good fats.. It ticks all the boxes.
